It’s been a few days so I thought I’d post up about my progress. Last update I had my first site ready to launch – unfortunately it is still in this “Ready to Launch” state. I’m currently waiting for an affiliate network to review my application, which seems to be taking a while. If it doesn’t work out due to traffic or similar I’ll have to have a quick rethink on how the site works.

As soon as it’s live I’ll be posting guides on how it was made, how I’m marketing it, how I’m monetizing it and performance updates.

Over the weekend, while spending a lot of time being too hot and lazing around doing nothing, I managed to get a few hours of work in on my fist site. Thanks to Clear Content the CMS is pretty much there, just need to fill it all with content! I have my domain and everything set up so fingers crossed tonight I’ll be going live with it!

I expect that to begin with things will be slow, but I’ve already joined a couple of forums and made a few posts, ready to whack in my signature links. I’ll be posting a guide on a few traffic generating strategies I’ll be trying, as per the plan all free apart from my time – I have no budget for this project!

Well after my initial post on the subject I sat down last night in front on Photoshop and Ultra Edit and started coding away. I managed to get the main structure of a site done, all that’s left to do is to plug it into a CMS (Clear of course) and fill it with some content.

So what has been my process so far?

As I said I have 2 websites in planning to start my “adventure” off with. Both are specific to a particular niche, and give me the opportunity to earn through a variety of channels. Until I get them live I don’t want to give too much away, but what I want to get across here is the fact I’ve picked a niche market, and created a site around that. It doesn’t matter what niche you go for, and there are different ways you can come to the decision of a certain niche.

For me, one of the niche’s should have high performing adsense revenue. A little research gave me an idea of what keywords might pay in google. Of course you can never be 100% sure, but due to how much competition there is, and how expensive it is for the advertisers to advertise such keywords, it gave me a good indication. On top of this I feel confident that the site can fulfil visitor’s needs which I believe should always be high up the requirement scale.

The second niche, which is in fact the first one I’ll be launching, is a simpler website and a niche I know a lot about. Therefore I’ll be able to fill the site with lots of great content without too much trouble. The main revenue from this site will be commission based from a couple of affiliate programs, so adsense keywords don’t really come into play here.

I should be able to finish off the first site on friday, so I’m hoping for a launch at the weekend or early next week.

For many years I have been fascinated by blogs such as John Cow and John Chow, reading about how they seem to make a fortune every month through affiliate schemes and online marketing. A couple of times I’ve tried but failed miserably, but right now I feel determined to give it another shot – 3rd time lucky!

I’ve had a couple of ideas for websites that, in my mind, could bring in some cash through affiliate schemes and adsense. Last night I started putting together some simple site designs for them and I’m looking to get at least one up this week.

With running Clear as well I’m limited to 2 or 3 evenings a week and possibly some time at the weekends too. I plan to go slowly, but do things regularly. Where I think I’ve fallen down in the past is not being consistent with updates and marketing, so with my few evenings a week I’m putting together a plan of regular things to do each night, like updating the sites, posting on forums, tweeting and all the rest of it.

This also gives me the chance to add yet another thing to blog about here. With regular posts about how I am getting on, earnings summaries and articles based around my experiences. As I’m completely new to this hopefully my experiences will inspire other to follow a similar path, and I can show people that a complete newbie like me and you can make a bit of cash in this way. I’m not hoping for thousands a month like the big boys, anything I make will be a step in the right direction.
